Peace Odyssey 2001
A People's Conference for Peace - 2001
Proposals for a World Without War
From 1945 to 1992, more than 23 million people died in 149 wars
In today's wars, ninety percent of the casualties are civilians
War is not an acceptable method of conflict resolution
We call for a world without war
We call for a world where choices are not compromised
and where each person can choose how to live in peace
To that end, we propose the following:
recognition of a culture of peace as an international norm
support for international bodies of law
general and complete disarmament
the strengthening and enforcement of existing treaties
an active and institutionalized role for non-governmental organizations in all negotiations for peace
stringent laws to protect the bodily integrity of all, especially women and children
a ban on all nuclear materials in outer space
courses in conflict resolution as part of all primary education
peace education as a mandatory part of secondary school programs
legal protection for whistleblowers who report violations of peace agreements
for every child, a world of peace
