Information Habitat and Information Ecology

Information Ecology: an emerging holistic life science based on an appreciation of the exponentially-expanding, and increasingly accessible and affordable, information ecosystems that have come into being at a phenomenal rate - particularly since the August 1991 launch of the World Wide Web.

The fundamental properties and dynamics of habitats and species in these ecosystems differ profoundly from those in the material universe. For information has zero mass, zero physical size, an virtually zero travel time with the result that reproduction & propagation of the habitats and species is not constrained by the laws of conservation of mass and energy and the marginal cost of production is virtually zero.
