1. Overview
Synergistic Processes -- initially known as Synergistic Community Communication & Interaction Processes -- was created as a project of the International Synergy Institute in January 1992 in the context of preparations for the June 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The project was the basis for the accreditation of the International Synergy Institute to participate as an non-governmental organization in the Earth Summit / United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED).
a. Purpose The primary purpose of the project, as described in A/CONF.151/PC/L.28/Add.13, a U.N. document listing non-government organizations accredited to UNCED, was "A key contribution [of the International Synergy Institute] to the Conference will be in the application of information technology in support of effective communication, access to information, and broad-based participation in environment and development decision-making through its Synergistic Communication and Interaction Processes Project that incorporates two and a half years of work on Conference-related communication, information and participation issues."
